U.S. air strikes on bandits will worsen the situation— Sheikh Gumi warns, urging the government to pursue dialogue instead

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has lashed out at the United States over reports suggesting it may intervene militarily against terr+rists in Nigeria, describing the country as a “nation of liars.”

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, Gumi accused the U.S. of hypocrisy and destr+ctive interference in other nations’ affairs, citing its failed wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya.

“America are known to be liars. They said Saddam Hussein had we@pons of mass destr+ction, and there were none. They caused confusion in Iraq and Libya. So when they say they want to help Nigeria by b%mbing terr+rists, I don’t believe them,” Gumi said.

The cleric argued that U.S. intervention would only lead to massive civilian casualties and deepen insecurity, warning that Nigeria would s¥ffer the same fate as countries devastated by Western military action.

“If America drops b%mbs in Nigeria, more Muslims and Christians will d+e. It will worsen the crisis. They fought for 20 years in Afghanistan and failed,” he stated.

Defending his long-standing peace outreach to bandits and armed groups in northern Nigeria, Gumi maintained that dialogue not force remains the only solution.
“I’ve been going to meet these people to pacify and redirect them. They are human beings who can reason. If you use force, you only make things worse,” he said.

According to him, parts of Kaduna State have seen relative calm due to continued engagement with local armed groups.

“Kaduna is now relatively safe. We talk to them, and they are keeping their weapons but not fighting. Gradually, we will civilize them and make them good citizens,” he said.

Gumi concluded by warning that any U.S.-led airstrike would only “make the problem dirty.”

“B%mbing will not solve this problem,” he said. “It will only make it worse.”
