The Lagos State High Court has granted bail to social media activist and influencer, Scott Iguma, three days after he was remanded over allegations of criminal def@mation against a real estate company, PWAN.
Iguma had earlier been ordered into custody last Thursday by the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, following his arrest at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba. He is facing a 10-count charge related to alleged def@mation and publication of false information.
The case stems from a video posted by Iguma last week, in which he accused PWAN of defra¥ding customers. He reportedly submitted over 130 petitions from alleged victims to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), claiming the company issued receipts instead of actual land to investors.
His arrest triggered widespread criticism on social media, with public figures like,VeryDarkMan, Stanley Ontop, and singer Kokopee condemning the police and accusing PWAN of trying to suppress Iguma’s voice.
PWAN founder, Augustine Onwumere, has denied involvement in the arrest, stating he only went to the police to clarify matters after seeing a video where Iguma claimed that if anything happened to him, PWAN should be held accountable.
