Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif was k+lled along with four colleagues in what the network says was a targeted Israeli strike on a journalists’ tent in Gaza City.
The att@ck, which occurred late Sunday outside the main gate of al-Shifa Hospital, claimed seven lives in total. Among the dead were Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Qreiqeh, and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa.
Al-Sharif, 28, was a prominent Arabic-language reporter known for his extensive coverage from northern Gaza. Moments before his de@th, he posted on X about intense Israeli “fire belt” bombardments on the city’s eastern and southern areas. His final video captured the thunderous bl@sts and flashes of orange lighting up the night sky.
The Israeli military accused al-Sharif of leading a Hamas cell and directing rocket att@cks against civilians and soldiers, claiming to have “unequivocal proof” of his involvement. However, human rights analyst Muhammed Shehada dismissed the allegations as baseless, saying al-Sharif’s daily work was limited to on-camera reporting.
Al Jazeera has condemned what it calls an Israeli “campaign of inc+tement” against its Gaza-based journalists, with al-Sharif among those most frequently targeted in recent months.
